In Tibetan Buddhism, there are four major traditions: Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu and Gelug.

From the point of view of practice, they are all Mahayanists following the unity of Sutrayana and Tantrayana on the basis of Hinayana. But they do not differ from the points of view of action or philosophy.

Their differences are due to the time of their coming to Tibet, the different lineage of Lamas who have introduced them, the different emphasis on the various aspects of practice and the terminologies by which their teachings are transmitted.

All four lead to Buddhahood. Therefore, it is absolutely wrong to say one is better than another, or to disparage any of them.

Good quality, high resolution images of attained masters and high lamas, absolutely FREE!

Yes, you can download and print high-resolution images of the Enlightened Beings, Buddhas and High Lamas absolutely free. Why are we doing this?

We realise that it can sometimes be difficult to find good quality, iconographically correct images of the various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, especially in places where Dharma is not strong, or in remote areas. Therefore, we are very happy to be able to make this selection of images available to everyone to download at absolutely no charge. The images are high-resolution and of sufficient quality to be printed clearly on an A4 or A3 sheet of paper and framed for your altar or shrine.

Enjoy these good quality, high resolution images of these attained masters and high lamas, who are turning the Wheel of Dharma around the world today, or who have been instrumental in spreading the Dharma in the years gone by.

** Note that the high resolution files are large (up to 3Mb each) and will take some time to download.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is both the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet. Although His Holiness describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk, the lineage of the Dalai Lamas are believed to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet.

H.E. Tsem Rinpoche has received teachings and oral transmission from His Holiness. who is one of Tsem Rinpoche’s Gurus In fact, it was His Holiness who bestowed the final confirmation and recognition of Tsem Rinpoche’s status as the reincarnation of the 72nd Abbot of Gaden Shartse monastery, Gendun Nyedrak.

The following is one of H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama’s favourite dedications, extracted from Chapter 10 of the Bodhicharyavatara of Master Shantideva.

May all beings everywhere
Plagued by sufferings of body and mind,
Obtain an ocean of happiness and joy
By virtue of my merits.

May no living creature suffer,
Commit evil or ever fall ill.
May no one be afraid or belittled,
With a mind weighed down by depression.

May the blind see forms
And the deaf hear sounds.
May those whose bodies are worn with toil,
Be restored on finding repose.

May the naked find clothing
The hungry find food
May the thirsty find water
And delicious drinks.

May the poor find wealth,
Those weak with sorrow find joy;
May the hopeless find hope,
Constant happiness and prosperity.

May there be timely rains
And bountiful harvests;
May all the medicines be effective
And wholesome prayers bear fruit.

May all who are sick and ill
Quickly be freed from their ailments.
Whatever diseases there are in the world,
May they never occur again.

May the frightened cease to be afraid
And those bound be freed;
May the powerless find power
And the people think of benefiting each other.

For as long as space remains,
For as long as sentient beings remain,
Until then may I too remain
To dispel the miseries of the world.

Palden Lhamo’s form is that of a fierce female ogress, with jutting teeth and fangs. Her three eyes represent her ability to see into past, present and future realms without any type of obstruction. She is dark blue in colour representing her attainment of great bliss – the realization of emptiness.

Her right hand is in the sky holding a skull cup representing the destruction of obstacles. The skull cup is filled with blood, representing great bliss.

She carries a human-skin bag full of diseases that she collects from those who invoke her. Her legs are in a semi-relaxed posture and chains connect one ankle to the other.

Palden Lhamo is the personal protector of the Panchen Lama and of all fourteen incarnations of the Dalai Lama. She is practiced within all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and she is a fully enlightened Buddha.

Propitiating her and making offerings to her is extremely beneficial to overcome our spiritual and worldly obstacles.

Her spiritual energy in the form of sound that helps to transform the mind (Mantra):
